SSC JE Paper 2 Syllabus for Additional Streams
The supplied information also identifies four additional technical streams.
| Stream | Major Paper 2 Areas |
|---|---|
| Computer Science & IT | Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Digital Logic, Computer Organization, C Programming, Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating Systems, Databases, Computer Networks |
| Electronics & Telecommunication | PN Junction Diodes, BJT/FET/MOSFET, Amplifiers, Oscillators, Digital Electronics, Antennas, AM/FM/Pulse Modulation, FDM/TDM, PSK/ASK/FSK, Fibre Optics, RF and Wireless Communication |
| Physics | Mathematical Methods, Mechanics, Oscillations and Waves, Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, Kinetic Theory, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics, Solid State Physics, Semiconductor Devices, Analog and Digital Electronics |
| Telecommunication | Network Analysis, Signals and Systems, Electronic Devices, Analog Circuits, Digital Circuits, Control Systems, Analog and Digital Communication, Information Theory, Electromagnetics, Transmission Lines |
Candidates from these streams should map each topic against the applicable SSC syllabus before creating their study schedule. A branch-specific syllabus checklist is more useful than attempting to cover every topic at the same depth.
How to Prepare the SSC JE Syllabus 2026
The size of the technical syllabus can make SSC JE preparation difficult if candidates try to study every subject simultaneously. A better approach is to divide preparation into concept building, question practice and revision.
1. Start With the Official Syllabus
Before selecting books or watching lectures, make a topic checklist from the applicable SSC JE syllabus.
Divide every topic into:
- Not started
- Studying
- Completed
- Revised
- Strong
- Needs more practice
This prevents candidates from repeatedly studying familiar chapters while leaving major areas untouched.
2. Give Technical Subjects Priority
Paper 2 is entirely technical and carries 300 marks under the supplied pattern. Therefore, technical subjects should not be postponed until after Paper 1 preparation.
A practical study cycle is:
Concept → Formula/Short Notes → Topic-wise Questions → PYQs → Error Analysis → Revision
This is more useful than repeatedly watching lectures without solving questions.
3. Use Previous-Year Questions as a Syllabus Tool
PYQs should not be treated only as mock tests.
After completing a topic such as Thermodynamics, Soil Mechanics, Electrical Machines or RCC Design, solve relevant previous-year questions.
Record:
- Questions answered incorrectly
- Concepts forgotten
- Formula mistakes
- Calculation mistakes
- Questions taking too much time
- Topics repeatedly appearing in your practice
This creates a personal list of weak areas.
4. Keep General Sections Under Regular Revision
Reasoning and General Awareness should be studied consistently rather than being left entirely for the final weeks.
For Reasoning, focus on question practice.
For General Awareness, combine:
- Current affairs revision
- Static GK
- General science
- Polity
- History
- Geography
- Economy
- Government schemes
- Important awards, books and sports
The exact weight given to individual topics can vary, so preparation should remain aligned with the applicable syllabus and PYQs rather than relying on unsupported assumptions about question frequency.
Recommended Books for SSC JE Preparation
Candidates should avoid collecting too many books. A smaller set of reliable resources, combined with PYQs and mock tests, is generally easier to manage.
For the technical sections, MADE EASY currently lists dedicated SSC JE books for Civil, Electrical and Mechanical preparation, including previous-year objective solved-paper volumes.
SSC JE General Aptitude and General Awareness — MADE EASY
This resource is designed around the general sections relevant to engineering recruitment examinations and can be used for structured practice in General Aptitude and General Awareness. The book is currently listed by Flipkart under MADE EASY's catalogue.
SSC-JE 2026: Civil Engineering Previous Year Objective Solved Paper Volume-1 — MADE EASY Team
This is useful for Civil Engineering candidates who want to convert completed technical topics into exam-oriented practice. The current listing identifies it as a 2026 publication and describes topic-wise previous-year objective questions with explanations.
SSC-JE 2026: Electrical Engineering Previous Year Objective Solved Paper Volume-1 — MADE EASY Team
Electrical Engineering candidates can use this type of branch-specific PYQ resource after completing individual technical chapters. The current listing identifies the title as a 2026 publication.
SSC-JE 2026: Mechanical Engineering Previous Year Objective Solved Paper Volume-1 — MADE EASY Team
Mechanical Engineering candidates can use the book for topic-wise objective practice and previous-year question analysis. The current listing describes it as covering SSC JE technical questions and identifies a 2026 publication.
For candidates from other technical streams, the important principle is to select a resource that follows the applicable SSC syllabus and provides sufficient objective practice rather than buying several overlapping engineering textbooks.
How to Revise the SSC JE Syllabus
Revision should become more frequent as the examination approaches.
A simple cycle can be:
First study: Understand the concept.
Second revision: Review formulas, definitions and important methods.
Third revision: Solve PYQs and previously incorrect questions.
Final revision: Use short notes, formula sheets and error logs.
For technical subjects involving numerical problems, revision without question practice is incomplete. A candidate may remember a formula but still lose marks because of incorrect application or calculation.
Common Mistakes While Preparing SSC JE
Studying Without the Syllabus
Candidates sometimes spend weeks following coaching material without checking whether every chapter is relevant to SSC JE. Use the syllabus as the master checklist.
Collecting Too Many Books
More books do not automatically mean better preparation. Pick one primary conceptual resource and one strong PYQ/practice resource for a subject wherever possible.
Ignoring Paper 2
Paper 2 requires dedicated technical preparation. Candidates should not treat it as something to begin only after completing all Paper 1 preparation.
Solving Questions Without Analysis
A mock or PYQ session is only useful when mistakes are reviewed afterward. Maintain an error notebook or digital error log.
Leaving Revision Until the End
A large technical syllabus becomes difficult to retain if every chapter is studied only once. Schedule revision alongside new-topic preparation.
SSC JE Preparation Strategy for Candidates With Limited Time
If you have limited preparation time, do not try to study every resource available.
Use this priority order:
- Understand the complete syllabus.
- Identify the subjects and chapters that require the most work.
- Complete core concepts.
- Start PYQs alongside preparation.
- Maintain an error log.
- Revise completed chapters regularly.
- Add timed practice and mocks.
- Increase revision frequency near the examination.
For example, a candidate with only a few weeks remaining should spend less time collecting new study material and more time on PYQs, revision, formula recall, weak-topic correction and timed practice.
SSC JE Syllabus 2026: What Should You Study First?
The exact starting point depends on the candidate's engineering branch and existing preparation.
However, a practical sequence is:
Technical fundamentals → Core technical subjects → PYQs → Reasoning → General Awareness → Mixed practice → Full-length mocks → Final revision
Candidates who already have a strong engineering foundation can move more quickly into PYQ-based preparation. Those with weak fundamentals should first repair the concepts responsible for repeated mistakes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is SSC JE Paper 1 based only on technical subjects?
No. Paper 1 includes General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and the General Engineering section corresponding to the candidate's selected technical discipline.
How many questions are asked in SSC JE Paper 1?
The supplied examination pattern contains 200 questions for 200 marks: 50 questions from General Intelligence and Reasoning, 50 from General Awareness and 100 from General Engineering.
How many marks is SSC JE Paper 2?
Paper 2 carries 300 marks under the supplied 2026 examination pattern, with 100 technical questions.
Is there negative marking in SSC JE?
Yes. The supplied pattern specifies 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in Paper 1 and 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper 2.
Is the SSC JE syllabus the same for Civil, Electrical and Mechanical candidates?
No. The general sections overlap, but the technical syllabus is different for each engineering discipline.
Which books should I use for SSC JE preparation?
Use a limited number of relevant resources. Branch-specific previous-year question books can be particularly useful after completing the underlying technical concepts. Current 2026 SSC JE technical PYQ titles from MADE EASY are available for Civil, Electrical and Mechanical candidates.
How should I prepare the technical syllabus for SSC JE?
Break the syllabus into individual topics and follow a concept → practice → PYQ → error analysis → revision cycle. This makes it easier to identify weak chapters and prevents passive study.
Final Preparation Takeaway
The SSC JE Syllabus 2026 is broad, but candidates do not need an unlimited number of resources to cover it. The more effective approach is to convert the syllabus into a trackable checklist, build the technical fundamentals, solve previous-year questions and repeatedly revise the areas where mistakes occur.
For Paper 1, maintain regular practice of Reasoning and General Awareness alongside technical preparation. For Paper 2, concentrate heavily on the selected engineering discipline and use topic-wise questions to test whether concepts can actually be applied.
The objective should not simply be to finish the syllabus once. It should be to reach a stage where the major topics have been studied, practiced, revised and tested under time pressure before the examination.
